A DISCUSSION OF LAW AND JOURNALISM

About Our Name

We take our name from English as She Is Spoke, the classic 19th-century Portuguese guide to the English language — written by a man who could not speak any English. The results were a spectacular failure.   Mark Twain, in his introduction to the American edition of the book, wrote: “Nobody can add to the absurdity of this book, nobody can imitate it successfully, nobody can hope to produce its fellow; it is perfect, it must and will stand alone: its immortality is secure.”   To see this wonderful little book, click here.
